Ukiyo

“The Floating World” (ukiyo) was an expression of the new economy and social ambitions of the people of the Edo period (1615-1868).

It was, specifically, a world of art and entertainment and offered escape from the constraints that the samurai estate forced upon the merchant class.

Ukiyoe (wood block prints), from this era include some of the most famous and iconic Japanese art works.

Chalet Ukiyo also offers an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life for its owners and guests and also ‘floats’ over the natural surrounding vistas. With a custom waterfall kitchen and custom designed bathrooms, Ukiyo is the ultimate stylish and private Niseko retreat.
